Sentence deferred

A man who behaved in a threatening manner, shouted and swore at an Oban pub appeared at the town’s sheriff court last week.

Donald Reid, 41, of Solas, Albany Street, Oban, pleaded guilty to making offensive remarks, threatening violence at the pub and later in Oban Police Station on December 5 last year.

The offence was aggravated by prejudice in relation to sexual orientation.

Procurator Fiscal Rebecca Reid said bar staff had decided to remove his drink from him due to his level of intoxication. He was persuaded to go outside the pub, where he began banging windows.

Police were called and he was taken to Oban Police Station. Ms Reid said: “While at the charge bar he repeatedly referred to police witnesses as ‘poofs’.”

Sheriff Euan Cameron said: “This was an appalling piece of behaviour.” He called for background reports and deferred sentence until November 1.
