New mast application for Sunart

Planning permission is being sought from Highland Council for a 25-meter communications tower in Sunart.

Situated north of Polloch, the tower would include three antennas and two dishes, as well as two cabinets and an associated meter cabinet. It would be constructed on land owned by Forestry and Land Scotland.

The structure is a proposed addition to the Shared Rural Network, which aims to improve rural network and 4G coverage in the UK. The application for the new tower was made by an agent on behalf of Virgin Media O2.

Consultation periods have been provided deadlines of Tuesday October 24 for standard consultation, and Thursday November 2 for neighbour consultations. However, the application may be affected by the absence of feedback from Sunart Community Council (SCC), which is not currently sitting.

SCC has been in abeyance – a temporary suspension – since October 10 after receiving an insufficient number of nominations in the recent council elections. If more people step forward, its next chance to reform is January 2024.

Full details of the application can be found on the Highland Council planning page using reference 23/04626/FUL. The council has set a determination deadline of Friday November 24.
