Vaccine clinic rearranged over concern Arran was ‘missing out’

NHS Ayrshire and Arran vaccination teams are offering seasonal flu and Covid booster vaccinations at a drop-in clinic at Ormidale Pavilion, Brodick, from 9am to 12.30pm today (Friday).

It follows concern that Arran residents were missing out on their vaccinactions after a previous clinic was cancelled as a result of ferry disruption. That led Arran MSP Kenneth Gibson to write to the health board.

In a reply, head of corporate governance Shona McCulloch said: “Thank you for your enquiry on behalf of your constituents regarding access to flu vaccine appointments on Arran. I am very sorry for the difficulty and inconvenience they have experienced attempting to reschedule their vaccination appointments.

“I will ensure your constituents’ concerns are escalated to the programme team, as they make valid points around the lack of appointments available on the system to reschedule and that more flexibility is required for residents of Arran.

“The vaccination team has faced logistical difficulties due to short notice cancellation of ferries, however, I am advised it is currently planning the next date to return to Arran.

“I am sorry I don’t have a date to advise as yet, but reassure you that individual details will be passed to the programme team so they can be contacted in advance of the next planned clinic in Arran.”

Mr Gibson said: “I’m pleased that steps are being taken by NHSAA to ensure no-one in Arran who requires a vaccination missed out.”

Most people who are eligible will have been contacted by the NHS ahead of today’s clinic, however, eligibility can be checked at https://www.nhsinform.scot/winter-vaccines

You do not need an appointment to attend but if you prefer to book you can do so either by using the online portal or calling the national helpline on 0800 030 8013.

Most housebound individuals resident on the island have already been visited by vaccinators, however, arrangements are being made for further home visits today. Care home residents have already been offered their vaccinations.
