A proud day as Ali get his MBE

It was a proud day for Brodick’s Ali Hume as he received his MBE at an investiture at Windsor Castle.

Ali, who received the MBE in the New Year’s Honours List, travelled to Windsor last Wednesday with his family – wife Shona, Niall and Amie – to receive his award from The Princess Royal, Princess Anne.

Ali received the MBE in recognition of his work over more than 47 years with Arran Mountain Rescue Team. He said he was “very humbled” to receive the award which, he said, was thanks to a lot of people over a long time.

He described the investiture ceremony as ‘a well-oiled machine’ with more than 200 recipients receiving their awards over two sessions on the day.

He said Princess Anne was “charming and very knowledgeable”. She chatted about Arran, the mountain rescue team, the number of call outs and their Land Rovers as she presented the award.

“It was amazing and all very relaxed. I got the chance to speak to other people, well the ones in kilts, and it was great to hear the work people do in all aspects of life.”
