Tarbert-Portavadie ferry cancelled for Monday

CalMac announced at lunchtime on Monday that the Tarbert-Portavadie service has now been cancelled for the remainder of the day.

“Due to an electrical fault MV Loch Riddon has been delayed departing Largs,” reported CalMac Service Info on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Investigations are ongoing and an update will be provided at 17:00 regarding sailings on Tuesday 24th October.”

The update followed an earlier alert from CalMac Service Info on X that “due to a technical issue elsewhere on the network, MV Loch Riddon has been redeployed.”

However, CalMac had then said the MV Loch Riddon would resume service with the Monday 14:15 sailing departing Tarbert, before the electrical fault was reported.

On Sunday, several sailings of the MV Loch Riddon were cancelled due to the redeployment.

Councillor Alastair Redman said some of his constituents, some of them with no car, had been left stranded at Portavadie.

“I’m furious,” said Cllr Redmond. “Some of them were foot passengers who were forced to rely on the kindness of strangers.”

He said his constituents had essentally been told they were “second best” with the ferry redeployed.

“It is not acceptable,” said the councillor, who said his constituents had been left “stranded and abandoned.”
