New Kilmelford bridge is open

A permanent new bridge has just opened at Kilmelford.

Argyll and Bute Council confirmed this afternoon that the structure can take light vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes for now.

In an update posted on social media, a council spokesperson said: “Our teams have been working hard to construct the new permanent bridge and, following all the necessary safety checks, we’re pleased to confirm that the bridge has now re-opened to light vehicles (under 3.5 tonnes).

“Thereafter we’ll look to increase the weight limit as the concrete strengthens over the following days. Thanks for your patience and co-operation during this time.”

The old bridge had to be demolished after damage from severe weather earlier this month made it unsafe to cross.
