Pupils U15s into third round of Scottish Cup

Giffnock SC 2009s 2
Campbeltown Pupils 2009s 5

The Campbeltown Pupils 2009s – under 15s – put in their best performance of the season last Saturday to move into the third round of the Scottish Cup, defeating Paisley and District team Giffnock SC.

The young Pupils side looked sharp from the off and were rewarded midway through the half when good link-up play between Robert Kerr and Rio Arkell saw the ball squared to Ryan Johnston who finished calmly.

Despite looking the more dangerous team, the Pupils were unable to add to their lead until the second half, when they scored two goals in quick succession.

Firstly, Johnston latched onto a bouncing through ball to lob the advancing goalkeeper.

Better was to come shortly afterwards when Kayden Prentice with a brilliant through ball released Johnston again, this time to complete his hat-trick with a spectacular chip into the roof of the net.

Giffnock pulled a goal back, but the Pupils regained their advantage when Prentice smashed home a low drive from the edge of the box to make the score 4-1.

Giffnock fought back again to score a second before the Pupils made it five on the stroke of full-time with a fine team goal.

Prentice again released a defence-splitting pass to find Arkell who, in turn, found Johnston in the box. Johnston rounded off the move by going past the last defender and slotting home for his fourth goal of the day.

It was great win for the Pupils, with all of the 15 players used putting in maximum effort to claim the win.

The third round match takes place this weekend, with the Pupils on the road again, this time to high flying first division team Charlie Miller Academy.
