Boom year for Oban fireworks

Saturday November 4 saw one of the most impressive fireworks displays seen in Oban for many years.

Thousands of people lined the Esplanade, North Pier, George Street, Stafford Street and Station Square. Argyll and Bute Council and the Auxiliary Coastguard have officially
calculated that a crowd of more than 6,000 people were in attendance.

Andy Spence, chief executive of local business network BID4Oban. said: “There was huge anticipation and enthusiasm in the crowd for this year’s event. It is so important that we can have a safe, secure and entertaining display that is unique in that it is in the centre of town.

“With so many vantage points you could not miss the display. This year there were many visitors that took advantage of the spectacle, and we did not disappoint locals
and visitors alike.

“Many visitors were amazed that Oban puts on an event of this scale, and it is
now one of Scotland’s must-see fireworks displays. We would like to thank all the businesses that stayed open and put on specials for the crowds.”

Volunteers passed round buckets and tins, and sold goodies, for the Festive Lights Collection, raising more than £1,000. Oban ambassador Kay MacDonald said the amount raised was “amazing – the best yet”!

This display would not be possible without the financial support and organisation of BID4Oban and Scottish Sea Farms. Special thanks also go to the Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) for hosting the Fireworx Scotland team without whose continued support this event could not take place.

Thanks also to Police Scotland, Auxiliary Coastguard, Argyll & Bute Council for keeping us all safe also, Oban FM and all the cafés, chippies, pubs, and vendors for keeping everyone fed and watered on the night.
