Remembrance Day in Fort William and Spean Bridge

Details have been released of the Remembrance Day Services in Fort William and Spean Bridge on Sunday November 12.

In Fort William, units will form up in the Viewforth Car Park at 10.30am, for the parade shun at 10.45am, and march off at 10.50am up the High Street to the War Memorial opposite Duncansburgh Macintosh Church.

The parade includes, in order, the Pipe Band, Colour Party, the Parade Commander, Council Members, the Royal British Legion Scotland, Commando Veterans, Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines, Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, Police, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, St Andrews Ambulance Corps, British Red Cross, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Training Corps, Red Cross Cadets, Boys Brigade, Boy Scouts, and Girl Guides.

The Ode to the Fallen will be read at 10.58am, replied by the parade: “We will remember them.” A two-minute silence then begins and ends with the sound of a gun firing (if present), and also finishes with a Pipe Lament played by the Pipe Major, and the Bugler sounding the Reveille.

The presiding minister will then say a prayer and a reading, before wreaths are laid.
The Wreath Bearers include the Inverness Lieutenancy, Highland Council, the Royal British legion, Commando Veterans, Navy Representatives, Army Representatives, RAF Representatives, Police, and Uniformed Organisations. Family wreaths are then laid.
The Parade comes to attention, the Colour Party marches off, and the spectators and units can move into the church for the service.

In the afternoon at the Commando Memorial in Spean Bridge, the service will begin at 3pm. The organisation will muster at 2.30pm at the lay-by on the south side of the memorial, and at 2.45pm will march northwards towards it using the old Gairlochy Road.
