Fidgety biker banned from driving

A 23-year-old riding a motorbike with cannabis in his system was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a £600 fine plus £40 victim surcharge at Oban Sheriff Court.

Kieron McIvor, of 48 McKelvie Road, Oban, was stopped by police for a routine check on November 20 last year in McKelvie Road.

Appearing before Sheriff Euan Cameron on November 1, he plead guilty to having seven micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood, the legal limit is two.

Police who stopped McIvor noticed his speech was a bit slurred, he appeared nervous and a bit fidgety. He gave a negative roadside breath tests but was then asked to give a specimen of saliva for a drug swipe which turned out to be positive.

McIvor was arrested and taken to the police station where a blood sample confirmed he had cannabis in his blood.

This was McIvor’s first offence and he had held his hands up to the charge at the first opportunity, the court heard.
