Ardrishaig KGV Community Park Association has been selected by the Scottish Co-op Community Fund as a local charitable organisation recipient for 2023-24.
“This will generate fantastic funds to create and bring about our community vision for the park for the benefit of our local and surrounding communities,” said the association.
Blair Johnston, secretary of the KGV Community Park Association, said he did not know yet how much funding the association would receive from the Co-op Community Fund.
KGV Community Park Association has also recently received £2,500 from Argyll and Bute Council.
Mr Johnston said: “This funding is to run workshops for the community on flora and fauna identification, a bio-blitz, volunteering for scrub clearance, gardening tools, bulbs and trees for planting, sports equipment, school holiday activities.
“Our aim is for biodiversity education, woodland development, and activities for the kids.
“We very recently received the good news of being chosen for the Co-op community fund which will run until November 2024. We are absolutely delighted that the Co-op has chosen us.”
“The more that we look at this community park that we have, we feel it is a big pull for all the demographics in the area.”
The KGV Community Park Association aims to develop the six acres of land in the park from its condemned status, back into community use with several events returning annually; to build a portfolio of data capture that will push funding onto the next stage with robust applications and proposals to funding bodies where the association can demonstrate the importance of the park to its community and surrounding communities.
