Experimental eco documentary for Brodick

An experimental documentary is to be shown as part of the Take One Action Film Festival when the Screen Machine visits Arran later this month.

Geographies of Solitude takes an immersive look at the ecosystem of Sable Island, a sliver of land in the Northwest Atlantic off the coast of Canada. Its only inhabitant, naturalist and environmentalist Zoe Lucas, has spent more than 40 years living on the island documenting the wild horses, seals and bugs, as well as the plastics and litter that has persistently washed on the island’s shores year after year.

Shot on 16mm film, director Jacquelyn Mills examines Sable and Zoe’s worlds at a slow and contemplative pace, using innovative and eco-friendly filmmaking techniques to see them in new, different lights. From this one small island, it offers an eye opening depiction of the amount of excessive waste polluting our world.

The film is not rated by the BBFC, but it is recommended it is appropriate for all those aged 8 and over. Take One Action’s tickets operate on a sliding scale policy, to pay what you can afford.

The screening will be at the Screen Machine in Brodick on Sunday November 26 at 1pm. It will be captioned for the deaf and hard of hearing and will have a short recorded introduction before the main feature.
