“Not acceptable” was the verdict of manager Alan Gray as Fort William Football Club slumped to a 4-0 defeat at home to Halkirk on Saturday, writes Peter Newman.

Despite being 0-0 at half time, two finishes from James Mackintosh as well as strikes by Sean Munro and Andrew Mackay put the away side out of sight and continued a run of disappointing performances at Claggan Park this term for the Fort William faithful.

“Our performance was not acceptable,” said Alan. “I apologise to the loyal Fort William fans who paid to come and watch today.

“It is Darren [Duncan, assistant manager] and I who choose the team and set up and maybe we need to go back to the drawing board and look at what we do at training and change what needs changing.

“We’ve looked timid at home and we have made it far too easy for opposing teams when they come to Claggan. At times it feels like we are beaten even before we leave the changing room and that needs to change. That falls on me, as the first team manager, to turn that around.

“Next week we head to play Invergordon and we need a marked improvement from what we saw out there today.

“Halkirk were good value for their win today and we wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.”

The result propels Halkirk to the top of the table and leaves Fort William in fourth place in the North Caledonian League.
