A new view of Remembrance Parade

Oban Sea Cadets flew a drone over the ranks at Oban’s Remembrance Parade on Sunday November 12, taking these incredible photographs.

Meanwhile Tarbert paid its respects on both November 11, Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday November 12 at the cenotaph overlooking the harbour.

A short service took place on Saturday at the war memorial, followed by the parade from the quay to the cenotaph, led by Loch Fyne Pipe Band, on Sunday.

Faslane Patrol Boat Squadron joined local dignitaries to remember the fallen at the 2023 Remembrance Day service in Tarbert. Also in photo are the Loch Fyne Pipe Band, Depute Lord Lieutenant Kenneth MacNab MBE DL and event organiser Aggie Dennis.

As well as representatives from a number of organisations, the local dignitaries were joined by members of the Faslane Patrol Boat Squadron which was officially affiliated with the community at the weekend.

Tarbert Academy school captains Daniel Blake and Andi MacFarlane read In Flanders Fields. Lone Piper John Hunt broke the two minute silence with Flowers of the Forest.

In Lochgilphead the Remembrance Sunday procession was very well attended, by representatives from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Lochgilphead Community Council, armed Forces charity SSAFA, Lochgilphead Veterans, Lord Lieutenant representative Sophie MacCartan, Army Cadet Force, Argyll and Bute Council, the town’s churches, 19th Argyll Scouts/Cubs, the NHS, Lodge Loch Fyne and the Retired Police Federation.

Among the spectators were Lochgilphead man Robbie Mactavish and his son Cairn, eight.

Robbie said: “The day was cold and bright. Cairn and myself headed out when we heard the pipes practising, we always make the effort to go either to George Square in Glasgow or down the front to pay our respects as both my grandfathers served and luckily both came back.

“My papa Jock Mactavish was a tank driver at the age of 19 and was awarded the Military Medal from Field Marshall Montgomery for his actions.

“So for that and the countless others that never had a choice we pay respect.”
