Glasgow and District Youth Football League Under 14s

In a thrilling Glasgow and District Youth Football League encounter, Oban Saints Under 14s clinched a hard-earned victory over Helensburgh in a fiercely contested Argyll and Bute derby last Sunday.

Helensburgh took the lead when they capitalised on a Saints’ defensive lapse, but the Oban side rallied, showcasing their trademark passing routines with Joe Hill’s sensational left-footed strike bringing them level.

The pivotal moment followed a fine display of teamwork and precision passing.

Captain Archie Lewis intercepted a Helensburgh move, initiating a sequence that highlighted Saints’ tactical prowess. Lewis’ vision led to a perfectly orchestrated series of passes: Leon Maclean’s impeccable control set up Finlay Macallum, who played the ball through to Cairon Macnab. And Macnab’s clinical finish propelled Saints to a 2-1 lead at half time.

The second half belonged to the home side. Patrick Higgins, making a significant impact upon his return, found the net after being subbed on. Leon Maclean showcased his class with a remarkable long-range strike before cleverly converting a short corner into another goal, sealing a convincing 5-1 win for Saints.

Archie Lewis rightfully claimed the man of the match award for his influential performance and leadership on the field.

Saints’ next game is on Sunday with an exhibition match against an Argyll select, relishing a break from league and cup fixtures.

The game will be played at Glen 2, kick-off 2pm.
