Santa’s Elves competition: winners revealed

As preparations continue for Lochaber’s Christmas Festival on Saturday November 25, the competition to become one of Santa’s Elves for the day attracted a huge entry of 95 – from primary schools all over Lochaber.

This year’s competition – to compose a 4-line message or poem for inside a Christmas card from Lochaber – was open to all 5 to 10 year olds living in the area.

Sponsored by Ferguson Transport and Shipping, and promoted in partnership with the
Lochaber Times, Rotary President Flora McKee said she was pleased with the great
response and added: “The reindeer parade is one of the highlights of the festival day
and it’s wonderful to see our youngsters taking such an interest and using their literary
skills.

“This year’s winners are 7-year old Lewis Traill from Lundavra Primary in Fort William and 10-year old Evie Kenning from Arisaig Primary.

“We are delighted that they will be helping Santa on Saturday”

Alasdair Ferguson, Group Managing Director of Fergusons said: “Once again we are
delighted to be sponsoring Lochaber Rotary’s Annual Christmas Festival by funding the
visit of the very special Cairngorm Reindeer.

“The success of the festival is down to the hard work of the Rotary and we are very proud of the partnership we have developed over the years.

“Feedback from the judges is that the standard this year was excellent and deciding on the winners for the short stories and poems competition was very close indeed!

We are all looking forward to another great day of Christmas festivities.”

The Reindeer Parade leaves Cameron Square at 11am lead by the Lochaber Pipe Band
and the Ben Nevis Allstars Cheerleaders. The Craft & Food Fayre, with over 60 stalls, opens at 9.30am in the Nevis Centre.

Flora said “This is Lochaber’s primary Christmas event.

“We are expecting a good turnout at both the Parade and the Fayre.”

Other attractions on Saturday include Santa’s Grotto, Buskers’ Corner, Bouncy Castle and a soft play area for younger children.
