New minister welcomed

Netherlorn Churches have welcomed Trudi Newton as their new minister.

Monday, November 13 was “a very happy day” for the group of churches as members gathered for the induction and ordination service, said sessions clerk Fiona Cruickshanks.

Kilbrandon Church at Seil was packed with members of the community, family and friends  from all over Netherlorn, Colonsay, as well as the Argyll Presbytery.

Seil Sound Community Choir opened the service and the Reverend Liz Gibson led the worship, with the sermon ‘Do not be afraid’ being led by Rev Alex Maccallum.

Scripture readings were read in Gaelic and English, hymns were chosen by the new reverend, and members of the congregation’s took part in the ordination before refreshments were shared with fellowship after the service.

Born and brought up in Orkney, before beginning her training for ministry she worked for various churches in Scotland as a children and families worker.

Prior to that, time was spent in  Malawi after completing an MA in Religious Studies at New College in Edinburgh.
