Tim Kliphuis Trio back to perform on Arran

The Tim Kliphuis Trio will be performing on Arran this weekend as part of their international tour.

The trio, made up of Tim Kliphuis on violin, Nigel Clark on guitar and Roy Percy on double bass will perform ‘In Memory of Django’ at Brodick Hall tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm, staged in collaboration with Music Arran.

Founded in 2006 after meeting in Glasgow’s Russian Cafe, Kossachok, the Tim Kliphuis Trio are a string group with a varied repertoire combining classical music, gypsy jazz and folk. The Trio started out with Grappelli jazz on their first tours in the Scottish Highlands but quickly developed a personal sound including other styles and repertoire from classical and folk music.

Tim’s roots are reflected in the classical repertoire, but his love for French gypsy jazz maestro Stéphane Grappelli ensures a heavy dose of swing improvisation. Nigel brings his background in Celtic folk, but also contemporary guitar techniques into the mix, while Roy’s sound recalls the various rhythms that define New Orleans street music.

This concert will feature tunes from Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, the Trio’s new Five Elements suite, and possibly even classically inspired pieces from Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos, and Vivaldi Four Seasons.

The programme will evolve through the evening, however, audiences can be assured of an evening of high-energy gypsy jazz and classical mash-ups.

Tickets for the concert, priced at £12 per adult and free for under 8s, are available at https://tickets-scotland.com/t3796
