Bumper weekend at Shop Arran

What a fantastic event Shop Arran turned out to be this year.

Held over three days last weekend, the 35 shops and businesss who took part reported a bumper trade all weekend with a number making record sales. Treats in the shops, pleasant autumnal weather and a weekend free of ferry hassles all added to the enjoyment for shoppers.

Shop Arran is firmly established as the island’s premeir pre-Christmas shopping event and the number of visitors from the mainland who joined islanders supporting their local businesses was great to see.

Janelle Paton at Janelles in Lamlash said: “The shop Arran weekend was a huge success for everyone. I think it was more or less a record breaking year for most, which is great.”

Next door Tracy Gibson at Island Porcelain added: “It was lovely to see the place alive and buzzing with Christmas cheer.”

Senja Brendon at Saltwater Gallery at Cladach said: “We had a fabulous weekend. We also raffled a large, framed, limited edition print to raise funds for the RNLI.”

The winner of the framed print ‘Sunset, Lochranza’ is ticket number 341 under the name Jenny.

Lynn Walker, owner of Chameleon Ladies Boutique in Lamlash and this year’s Shop Arran co-ordinator, said: “The Shop Arran organising group thank everyone who made it out and about over the weekend. Special thanks to those who travelled from the mainland. Your custom was greatly appreciated by everyone who took part.”
