Countdown to Christmas

The lights are up and the tree is in position, all we need now is for the lights to be illuminated and Campbeltown will be aglow with festive sparkle.

The town’s annual Christmas lights switch-on takes place this evening (Friday), after a bumper parade makes its way to the town centre.

The parade, featuring Santa himself and representatives from several local companies, organisations and groups, will travel to Main Street from Hazelburn Business Park via Millknowe Road, Aqualibrium Avenue and Kinloch Road, and will go half-way along Hall Street before making its way to the top of Main Street.

The switch-on is scheduled for about 7.30pm but singers are set to entertain the gathering crowds from 6.30pm onwards.

After the switch-on, there will be a Santa’s grotto in Campbeltown Town Hall, which will also host a Christmas market and music from noted American concert pianist Catherine Nardiello.

Shopkeepers have been busy decorating their windows ahead of Friday’s celebrations, and many will be opening up after the switch-on, most offering goodies and discounts to customers.

The winner of Campbeltown Christmas Lights group’s annual Christmas window display competition will be announced during the switch-on.

The festive fun continues on Sunday, when Springbank Distillery’s malt barns will be packed with stalls selling a variety of goods and food, as well as Santa’s grotto and children’s entertainment, for the Explore Campbeltown Christmas Market.
