Let the festivities begin

Communities in and around Fort William will be lighting up for Christmas over the next two weeks.

Tomorrow night, Friday December 1, Kilmallie Christmas Lights Group is holding a switch-on ceremony when the Christmas tree lights will be turned on.

Banavie Primary School pupils Aniyah Matheson and Robbie Neil have been nominated to perform the honours this year.

Their head teacher Mrs Colette MacLean said: “Aniyah and Robbie are hardworking, cheerful pupils and are a credit to Banavie Primary School.

“They are both very worthy of the honour of switching on the Christmas lights.”

Following the switch-on, everyone is invited to Kilmallie Community Centre for tea, coffee and home baking provided by Lochaber charity STAR for Harris.

Tanya Ross, STAR for Harris spokesperson, said: “We hope there will be a good turnout of residents, children and parents to this popular community event to welcome the start of the festive season.”

The switch-on is at 7pm and people are asked to bring a torch.

On Saturday December 2, Upper Achintore Regeneration Group’s Christmas light switch-on is 4.30pm while Claggan Resident Association’s Christmas light switch-on takes place on Sunday December 3 at 4pm.

Plantation Resident Association’s event takes place at 6pm on Thursday December 7.

The above three events are supported by Tenant Participation which is sponsoring the prizes for the groups’ activities.
