Hockey match called off after pitch freezes over

The Women’s West District 4th Division hockey match between Arran Hockey Club and Glasgow University Vs had to be called off after the pitch at Pollok Park froze over.

The Arran ladies, who have won their last two matches, received notice of the cancellation just 30 minutes before they were due to board the ferry at 10.30am on Saturday morning. The match will be rescheduled.

And the team will be hoping for better weather on Saturday December 9 when they are scheduled to play another away game against Ayr 2s.

Prior to the match cancellation, Arran were in third spot in the league table with Glasgow 6s in the top spot and next week’s opponents, Ayr 2s, in second.

The freezing cold weather also resulted in the Arran pitch freezing over. This resulted in the Junior Hockey Club’s training being cancelled on Tuesday evening for safety reasons.
