Lochaber Natural History Society December talk

The charity CAOLAS (Community Association of Lochs and Sounds) was established in 2015 by community members in the Sound of Mull and Loch Sunart areas.

It aims to increase understanding of the marine environment and involve people in its conservation.

The value of our coastal waters for wildlife and recreation is being increasingly recognised.

Discussions about Marine Protected Areas and drawing inspiration from other marine conservation schemes like the one at Lamlash Bay on the Isle of Arran which led to more community involvement and the realisation that local people can contribute to decisions about the management of their local waters.

A locally based programme of research, education talks and activities has been developed that shows people the unique marine life we have in Loch Sunart and the Sound of Mull.

If you would like to hear more about CAOLAS, Dr Texa Sim, Community Marine Project Manager will be speaking to Lochaber Natural History Society in St Andrews Church Hall, Fort William on Monday December 11 at 7.30pm.
