Crafters give parent and toddler group a boost

A parent and toddler group is to receive a £500 boost thanks to the generosity of some of Campbeltown’s most kind-hearted crafters.

Nimble Fingers members sold a wide range of home-made and handcrafted goods and products at their most recent craft fair, for which the theme was ‘How much is that doggy in the window?’.

Joining the group’s regular stallholders at the Argyll Bowling Club event was Marie McCallum of Circles in the Sand, selling a variety of handmade gifts including handbags, festive stockings, keepsake teddys, vases, pictures and candles.

As always, Vikki McAulay was busy in the kitchen baking up a storm to keep customers well-supplied with freshly-made waffles, as well as filled rolls, hot chocolate and other refreshments.

With Christmas coming up, the crafters decided to increase the first prize in the raffle to £100, which was won jointly by Emma Mathieson and Susan McMillan.

Susan McMillan and Emma Mathieson were the joint winners of the raffle’s first prize.

A different local cause is chosen to receive the proceeds from the raffle and tombola-type stalls at each Nimble Fingers craft fair, with the crafters aiming to help smaller organisations that tend not to receive big grants or lottery funding.

As the most recent beneficiary, childminder Lindsay Ronald plans to put the money towards purchasing soft play equipment for the parent and toddler group she runs.

“Nimble Fingers would like to thank everyone who supported our craft fair,” said Kate O’May of Kate’s Krafts on behalf of the group.

“If any crafters want to join us on Wednesday nights for crafts and a chat, or if they would like to help us at craft fairs, they would be very welcome.

“We are a small group and struggling a bit, and it would be a shame for us to fold as we do enjoy helping local groups and charities.”

Nimble Fingers members will be at Campbeltown’s Co-op on December 14, raising funds to through a ‘guess the birthday of the snowman’ stall, selling of gifts and a raffle. The monies from this event will go towards Nimble Fingers running costs.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports us,” said Kate, “and wish everyone a lovely Christmas and best wishes for 2024.”

Regular stallholder Margaret McShannon managed to get out from behind her Kintyre Tablet stand to chat to customers, while daughter, Christina, held the fort.
