Fort photographers get in the frame at national competition

Fort William Photographic Society has taken a bronze award in a prestigious competition run by one of the oldest photography bodies in the country.

Earlier this year the members decided to enter the Scottish Photographic Federation (SPF) Digital Championship – submitting 20 images, 15 of which were judged by a panel of experts alongside entries from 23 other clubs.

The federation was founded in 1903, with the aim of promoting the art and science of photography through interaction, an aim which they carry out to this day.

The judging took place in Dunblane, near Stirling, each entry being scrutinised by the three judges who awarded points based on what they considered to be the quality of the image and expertise used in producing it.

When the points were added up Fort William found that they had gained a third equal place, being awarded a bronze medal, while also coming in only seven points behind the winners.

Armando Barcenas, a founder member of the Fort William Photographic Society said: “We are. A small and friendly group and we are delighted to have taken third place against what was obviously very strong opposition.

“Our members are all very keen photographers and produce some great pictures.

“We also have talks on various subjects throughout the session and are always keen to welcome new people who share our interests.”

Fort William Photographic Society meet twice a month on the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the Salvation Army Hall, Fort William (next to the Leisure Centre) and are open to anyone with an interest in photography regardless of what experience they have.
